Startup Seeks Organizer & Manager:
We Can’t Wait to Give Away A Lot in ’21-’22
Do you like ideas that aim high? Might you sign on to an ambitious strategy, working with experienced entrepreneurs and nonprofit leaders? Have you enjoyed startup life and find yourself wanting more of it? Do people tell you that your career and life stories inspire them to join you?
People tell us we’re onto something big! We’ll find out by trying it out first among audiences in the San Francisco Bay Area. (If you don’t live there now, we hope you’re willing to move there when our project takes off.)
We’re encouraged when savvy people say this might work! If we gain traction, you’ll be contributing to changing the face of individual giving, influencing institutional philanthropy, and boosting the budgets of the non-profit groups and campaigns we’re looking to and working with to transform our world.
Is this you? You’re looking to be in at the start and help shape a project you can feel great about. Ideally:
You’ve been a staffer or volunteer with a leadership role at one or more climate justice groups, including Sunrise.
You’ve been in the workforce for at least five years, maybe at two places.
With a background in BizDevor Fundraising, you know how to partner with organizations to deploy our peer-to-peer fundraising strategy.
As a project director or manager, you’re good at prioritizing goals and assigning roles to volunteers and consultants.
As an entrepreneur or organizer, you know how to excite people to collaborate, building a team of volunteers as Co-Founders, Advisors, and Convenors. They will work within networks, starting with LinkedIn, to recruit Pledgers and Donors.
You easily combine promotional, strategic, and emotional messages as you talk and write.
Project Description: We Can’t Wait to Give A Lot Away in ’21-’22 is a pre-launch project focused mainly on wealthy and well-off people. Our goal? To boost their giving to causes by a factor of 10 — this year. We can respond at the scope, scale and speed demanded by our crises of democracy — and those of climate, species extinction, injustice, racism and inequality. We want to help organizations 10x their fundraising goals.
You’ll report to the Founder, Felix Kramer. An entrepreneur, advocate, and activist, finds “missing pieces.” He’s inviting others to join him in giving away $1M this year — or to dig deep at whatever level they can. He’s best known from the California Cars Initiative, where he led the successful campaign to encourage mass production of plug-in hybrids. In 2019-20, he and a team developed Active Allies, advancing climate action and justice through youth employment and intergenerational collaboration. He’s starting to reach out about We Can’t Wait to his large network, especially in CleanTech, ClimateTech, and other causes.
Compensation: In the range of $1,500/week. Initially a contract position. (When we have a fiscal sponsor, we’ll add benefits.)
A door to future opportunities: You'll start with a full focus on We Can't Wait. Once this project is well under way, you may transition to work with a group or people you meet through We Can't Wait, or become Campaign Manager at its parent startup, the intergenerational Active Allies, or one of its other projects.
Diversity: We believe starting with intersectionality can steer movements away from inequality and hierarchy, and into a better future that works for all of us. We strongly encourage women, indigenous people, people of color, LGBTQ+, and young people to apply.
To apply: We’re starting by distributing this selectively. If you know a potential candidate, please pass the link along.
If you’re a candidate, please submit info at this form, and write: email@example.com , Subject: “Your Name for WeCan’t Wait Manager.” Please include a thoughtful cover letter with your LinkedIn URL, your general take on We Can't Wait, and perhaps a suggestion or two. We’ll reply if we see a fit.
